Cake Decorating Blogs FAQ
General
Q: What do the categories mean?
A: The categories are a broad grouping of the blogs as follows:
- Cake Decorating Enthusiasts:
This category contains blogs by people who enjoy decorating cakes for a hobby. While they may make cakes for friends, family or even work colleagues they do not actively sell cakes to customers. These blogs are by people of any skill level, as long as they regularly talk about cake decorating. - Cake Decorating Instructors:
These are blogs that are run by people who offer and run cake decorating classes. It doesn’t matter if they blog about their classes, schedules or their own cake creations, if they run classes they will be listed here. - Cake Decorating Services:
This category is for anyone who designs and creates cakes for paying customers. Whether they use their blog to promote their business or just enjoy talking about their cakes they will be listed here. - Cake Making Recipes:
This category is for blogs that predominantly feature recipes. Obviously there is no recipe for cake decorating, so these blogs will contain cake, cupcake, dessert and cookie recipes.
Q: What are the tags?
A: I have added tags to each blog to represent the mixture of content and cakes I found prevalent at the blog. This will help anyone looking for something specific, such as wedding cakes, to find blogs that heavily feature inspirational wedding cake ideas. The tags given to each blog are my general impression only and are by no means a definitive list of what the blog is about.
Q: Why are some blogs featured and not others?
A: Blogs that are featured have met a number of simple requirements. Any blog in the directory can be featured for free and if you are the blog owner and would like your blog to become featured please see the Blog Owners section below for more details.
Q: Why do some blogs in the directory missing pictures for their posts?
A: Whenever they are available, we feature thumbnails of the pictures used within a given blog post. If no picture is shown, then there is either none used in the post or for some technical reason we are unable to display it.
Q: I think a blog is in the wrong category, how do I suggest it be moved?
A: Feel free to contact me with the details and why you think it is incorrectly categorized.
Q: Can I suggest more tags for a listed blog?
A: Yes of course! Please contact me stating which blog and which of the existing tags you think should be added.
Q: Can I suggest new tags or categories?
A: While I welcome all feedback and suggestions about the site, I cannot guarantee that I will add any suggestions for new tags or categories.
Q: What is your review about?
A: I visit every site listed in the directory and my review is based on this visit. Factors such as how much information I can find about the blog owner, how easily I found posts on decorated cakes and how engaging I found the site, will all influence my review.
Q: Why is the blog directory split over three sites?
A: The main reason is to help people connect with others in their own locale. Cake decorating equipment, ingredients and even the climate we live in can have a large impact on a person’s cake decorating experience.
Blog Owners
Q: What are the different listing types?
A: Every blog entered into my blog directory gets its own page, tags and descriptions. The three listing types appear differently on the category and tag pages as follows:
- Featured blogs are shown on the home page and at the top of listing pages, with each blog being featured for a day in turn and being highlighted wherever a Featured blog is displayed, providing the highest amount of exposure.
- Standard listings appear above Basic listings and beneath Featured listings with a full width entry, providing more exposure in the listings than a Basic listing.
- Basic listings appear beneath Standard and Featured listings with half width entries. Not all Basic listings have a written review.
Q: Why has my blog got a Basic listing?
A: A Basic listing is when I enter blogs I have found, as I come across them. Some of these blogs have not had a review written, but I have added them into the directory so others can find them as well.
Q: How do I get my blog promoted to a Standard listing?
A: If you have a Twitter account, follow me and @Cakeory me to let me know your blog URL. Alternatively if you are on Facebook, Like/Fan my Cakeory page and let me know your blog URL. If you don’t have either of these accounts please feel free to contact me directly.
Q: How do I get my blog promoted to a Featured listing?
A: Being Featured is free; simply contact me with your blog address and contact details and I will send you the details for getting featured.
Q: How much does it cost to be listed in your blog directory?
A: Being listed in my blog directory is completely free!
Q: My blog is already listed, but how do I update my blog description?
A: Please contact me with your new description, in less than 100 words, about yourself and your blog. Note that I will need to be able to contact you through your blog to confirm that the description is authentic.
Q: Can I submit my cake decorating blog?
A: Yes, please submit your blog here. Please see more details about the blog requirements in the Submission section below.
Blog Submission
Q: How do I submit a blog?
A: Please use the blog submission form and complete as many details as you can. The more information provided, the sooner I can add it to the directory.
Q: What kind of blog can be submitted?
A: Blogs must be mostly about cake decorating, cake making or cake recipes, including cupcakes and cookies. They do not have to be all about cake decorating and can contain unrelated posts.
- Blogs must be written in English.
- Blogs must have at least 10 posts on cake decorating or cake baking.
- Blogs must have an RSS feed. This is what enables updates to appear in the directory and encourages readers to visit your site.
- Blogs must not contain any offensive material or content taken from other sites without attribution.
Q: I submitted a blog, how long before it appears in the directory?
A: I have a long list of blogs to be added to my site, each of which I personally review, so it can take a while for me to catch up. However I always put submitted blogs before those I’ve discovered by chance. Please keep in mind that the more details supplied in the submission form, the easier it is for me to add a blog. If you submit a blog, it is fine to confirm that I received the details, but please do not keep emailing me to know when it will be listed.
