The Artisan Cake Guild is a small studio in Seattle dedicated to cake making and the sugar arts. Tobey de Christopher, Director, has been baking professionally for over 30 years.  He makes specialty cakes for weddings and other occasions; and on request, offers classes to individuals and small groups.  His students come from all walks of life, ages, and skill levels.  Most of his teaching is one-on-one, but small groups are welcome-whether for a social occasion or employee training.

At the Artisan Cake Guild students are taught baking, wedding cake making, fondant techniques, buttercream decorating, and gumpaste flower making.  Class descriptions on the website offer ideas as to potential class content, length, and cost.  Listed topics include:

  • Wedding Cake Design;
  • Hot Sugar Workshop;
  • Gumpaste Flowers (choose a specific focus, such as Spring Flowers, Roses, Peonies, or Magnolias);
  • Cake Baking (learn how to make a specific type of cake in three hours); and
  • Cake Decorating for Children (for one or more children ages 9 to 12).
